Run by The Piers Simon Appeal, the project works with children overseas who are victims of natural disasters and for whom education could be their passport to a life out of hardship and poverty.

The youngsters presented the charity with a cheque for ¡ê250, which they had raised by selling wrist bands, T-shirts and their most popular fundraiser - doughnuts!

Interact is the youth arm of Rotary, for students between 14 and 18 years old, and aims to bring young people together as a social group and to raise money for projects at home and overseas.

The Directorate of Education has issued a set of guidelines which, if implemented, will help reduce the weight of school bags. The recommendations were made by a committee formed by DoE.

The schools have been asked to devise timetables carefully. Principals have been asked to "frame a ...timetable ... so that children do not have to carry too many books or notebooks ... and also ensure that co-curricular activity periods, along with other periods, are held on a daily basis thereby having an equitable distribution of weight of school bags". And this older, but revised XC60, remains one of my favourites of 'executive' soft-roaders. My test version had two-wheel-drive. You can call it an SUV if you like; it is a 'soft-roader' to me.
